Updates and Prayers Needed!

For those of you following my trying to conceive journey. It looks like I am will be testing gain Tuesday...maybe I will make it Wed. to have some April Fools Fun. It could be interesting either way. Say some prayers. I am waiting for God on this one.

This week has been crazy. It is my most busy and stressful time of the school year...report cards, IEP progress reports, parent conferences, meetings with parents concerning summer school, writing IEPs for the following school year and testing all crammed into about 3 weeks. It is only beginning and I am spent. Next week, I have a meeting during the school day AND after school everyday. Plus...trying to get all my triathlon training days in. (after school) We also added swimming lessons for DD to the mix. I am def. feeling the overwhelmingness of it all. I need to calm and take things one. at. a. time.

The training is going well...although I didn't get swimming in yet because Monday we had severe thunderstorms with lightening and tornado rotations (nothing new in March in Oklahoma) By tomorrow we are expecting to get a sleet/rain mix followed by 6 inches of SNOW... another not surprising aspect of Oklahoma weather. 70 on day 30 the next! I am going to an Autism conference, so I am hoping on all hope that I make it home before the snow. Actually, that I make it to parent teacher conferences...because I come straight from the conference back to town to meet with parents. WHOHOO! (can't you hear the excitement in my voice)

On another VERY MUCH MORE IMPORTANT note...

Prayers for Stellan

A fellow blogger, source of inspiration for me as a mom is Jennifer over at mycharmingkids.net. She has a very unique story as she was told her unborn son would most assuredly die in before birth. He was healed of his Supra Ventricular Tachycardia (SVT) and was born happy and healthy.

Last Dec. he contracted RSV and had some issues with heart that were unrelated to SVT. He got over the RSV and has been fine until this week when he contracted another cold. He was taken to the ER, where he was given breathing treatments that have put his heart into a SVT rhythm.

This is stressful on his heart and difficult because it is not responding to meds given by the doctors in PICU. He is showing signs of "trying" to resume normal heart rhythm, but has had at least on prolonged v-tach rhythm. Please pray for this little baby. I know losing a child at any stage of life is difficult and don't want Jennifer, PC or her other 3 children to experience the loss of their miracle.

Jennifer updates on twitter.com/mckmama
and through her blog pretty frequently as to what is going on. You can click the above picture or the colored link...it's fixed now ;)

Tomorrow marks 9 more weeks of school!

My highest accomplishment this week has been the mounds of laundry...and I am only about 1/2 done. I did manage to get the laundry clean, folded and put away. Even got the socks matched with the help of my mom! Laundry never gets finished at our house, so this might actually happen.

-------------------------

Evy has been sick for a couple days...and has developed a fear of cleaning her room.

Me: Evy, since you are feeling better, please come pick up your toys. (Toys are all over floor by toy box...scattered about her red carpet)

Evy: (feet patting the floor to her room) Mom

Me: You need to pick up your toys

Evy: I like my room like this. I want to watch TV.

Me: These toys need to be put away before bed.

Evy: (now crying...) But I am afraid of cleaning.

-------------------------

Evy hasn't been eating over the last couple days. She has eaten about half a bowl of macaroni on a couple of occasions, which is highly unlike her. If I can get her nothing else, macaroni is always something she sucks down.

But tonight... she is quitting it up.

She choose chocolate cereal instead. And...didn't finish it.

New training blog...a few of you may have already found it....but I started a new training blog for the triathlon in August.

Feel free to keep me accountable!

Spring Break

I think I am in need of a break from Spring Break. We spent the first 4 days of the break in Branson. It was a low-key no pressure kind of setting, but also busy and fun. We had a blast with Evy one day, just the three of us. Michael and I took her to "Ride the Ducks" while the rest of the family went to look for handmade knifes. They had dropped us off and left. As we bought our tickets, the only next available time with more than 3 hours away. We decided to walk over to Krispy Kreme and then on to The Track. Evy and I ate a mini-donut and she blacked her eye goofing around. We walked a little further down the strip and she was able to ride as many carnival rides as she could. A mini Ferris wheel, rabbit merry-go-round, swings, train, and tea cups. Then we played a round of mini-golf...all before boarding the ducks and taking the tour of Branson and Tablerock lake. Evy even drove the boat. We returned to quickly change clothes, grab some food and head off to a show. I think that was our most exhausting day...then we left.

Since we have been home I have been doing some massive Spring cleaning. Our bedroom was in major need of dusting and declutterization. We needed to switch out the winter clothes and Michael needed some help in the wardrobe department. It was almost a two day project and now I have about 10 loads of laundry to catch up on...seems to be my nemesis. I continued a deeper cleaning mode today, after my plans to go visit some friends got put on hold. Evy spiked a temperature last night (103.7 +) and has been clingy and cranky ever since. I finally got her to eat something today, but was a little scared after the "throwing up incident" at 4:30 this morning. Michael has been off at work, so it has been just us. My parents came by so I could run to the pharmacy and get a quick workout. He was suppose to come home for a break (has been there since 6 AM) but his replacement is sick...so he will be working straight for 24 hours. Evy doesn't want to leave, so he is on his own.

SO... I am ready for a break from my spring break week!

Today I climbed a mountain.

I awoke this morning with the same desire I had at 10p.m. to walk the steep hill at the foot of the resort. So...I dawned my new Nike sport bra, became very disappointed that my Nike +ipod sensor bit the dust, but decided that I would hit the trail anyway. I didn't know the distance and forgot to look at the clock before I left. The hill was so steep that I had to run down, trudge up the other side, and run back down, and trudge back to the resort. It was a crisp, slightly cool, Ozark smelling morning. I miss those morning walks at the farm as a teenager and young adult. The air *almost* smelled like Grandma's house. I listened to a little Needtobreath and pondered on my verses I am memorizing. I am still trying to figure out what is next...I need to get on it because it is 48 hours late! As I climbed back to the resort, I realized that I needed to pay attention to the time so I could figure out how much time it took me...see why I was so bummed about the sensor issue. When I got back to the room, I figured out the time by adding the songs I heard. I added the song totals and figured out it was 14 min. 29 sec. Then we drove it in the car... about 8/10s of a mile. Mapmyrun says .76 miles. It has an elevation ascent of of 194 feet and a decent of -190ft. I know it wasn't "30 minutes" of recommended exercise, but it got me sweating...which is good. So... today I climbed a mountain.

Accountability, please?

After a few days in Branson, I feel ready to come home. We had fun shopping and site seeing and eating. We have eaten to our hearts content and then some. It is so hard to make good food choices when on vacation. But truthfully, I live in vacation mode alot. I did get some workouts in downstairs...but no swimming as the water was frigid. Evy would much rather sit in the hot pool than in the cold pool. I am looking forward to getting back in the swing of home life again.

I am wanting to run/walk this hill from our hotel. It goes down and then up and is probably about a half mile or so...I am hoping that I can conquer it before we leave town tomorrow. I am setting out to do first thing in the morning...so keep me accountable! It would be a good challenge, especially before 5 hours of sitting in the car.

Things to do....

1. Dye my hair a lighter shade of blonde...this will make hubby happy.
2. Pack and clean for this impromptu trip to with the family. Am I up for it? Not really, but I am going to make the most of it and enjoy a break away.
3. Buy a swimming suit.
4. Get my triathlon training schedule written and on the ball...slacking this last week as not on the schedule.
5. Get over this terrible cold that seems to be plaguing me.
6. Take my vitamins and other pills...quit forgetting it...it isn't going to work if it they aren't getting taken.
7. Enjoy Spring Break and try not to think about the work that needs to get done before the end of the month.

10 years ago on March 12th....

I married this man.

We had a wonderful wedding. Complete with family, friends, and snow. It was beautiful, but hazardous to those who had traveled from far away. On Thursday afternoon, I picked up my wedding dress at 4pm. The rain started to fall just as it arrived safely inside the car. In the morning on Friday, it began to snow and by our 6pm wedding it was a white blanket covering the ground, cars and roads.

During the wedding, several interesting experiences happened. First, the wedding cake didn't show up. For some reason our cake designer confused the days and thought the wedding was on Saturday instead of Friday night. Thankfully my wedding coordinator was on top of it...otherwise we wouldn't have eaten our beautiful cake. During the ceremony, I dropped the ring, it rolled down the steps. On the video you can faintly hear me say...this doesn't mean I don't want to marry you as Michael scurries to pick it up. I would have done it myself but I was sort of stuck with my train fanned out, propped up on the stage like a fence post in cement.

After the wedding and reception, we headed toward home for our first night as a married couple. It was late...and we were hungry. So we searched for a place to eat. What did we find? But a Denny's. So we ate some good old fashion pancakes as our first meal as a married couple.

So...to let you in on a little secret, we then went home and crashed- no consummating. It was late and I was bushed. We were just so excited to be done with the day. Due to the weather: AKA Blizzard of '99, we had left some of the things at the church "to do" in the morning. So, we weren't planning on the leisurely wake up late, lay in your newlywed pajamas day...there was business to tend to, packing to be done, and a honeymoon destination in which to arrive.

So, we got up in the morning to find what? I ask you? not MORE SNOW!?! It was beautiful, but kind of hindering the plans of these blissful, young newlyweds. We packed, we dressed, and headed out in Michael's mom's van. We had gifts to transport and suitcases to carry, which given the current weather situation wouldn't do well in the small 2 door, open bed, pick up truck Michael owned. We finished the chores at the church and called OHP to check on the roads. Michael had planned a wonderful, short, inexpensive trip to a lovely bed and breakfast. Remember, we were young and blissful, and broke.

The Highway Patrol Officers assured us the road conditions were drivable if going to Oklahoma City- south...and indeed we were. As we headed west toward 1-35, we found ourselves inside some of the worst driving conditions I have ever seen, people. This was serious. There were two ruts with about 6 feet of snow drifts on each side. I am not exaggerating. Everything was covered in white. If this was a road less traveled for us, we would have been lost in the middle of nothing but stark white blowing sideways snow. Road signs were covered, the ditches and turn around areas were unrecognizable. We had no way to safely turn around to our warm home, so we kept driving west for 28 miles. We arrived at our exit, 3 hours later! The longest 28 miles of my life.

I have forgot to mention that during our 3 hour "tour", my dear, sweet, thoughtful caring husband, has cried twice afraid he was going to end marriage less than 24 hours into it. He carefully steered the car, going the most logical speed for the conditions, and prayed that we would make it to our destination-safely and in one piece. Once we reached the exit, we had a decision to make...keep going or turn back. As we got closer to the exit for I-35 south, we saw that our decision was made for us. A 18 wheeler truck was jack-knifed, blocking the exit ramp. So...we would go home. We exited as if we would go north on 35 and then planned to exit immediately and return the the east bound 2 ruts in the road...but as all fate would have it, another 18 wheeler was jack-knifed on our return route. Now...we are heading north...the exact way we were instructed NOT to go. "The roads were worse the further north you go....." these words of the OHP echoed through my head...at that moment I was assured we were only a few feet from the North Pole.

We headed north for a few more miles to a safe spot to turn around. After 4 hours of driving in what was marked as good road conditions (I would hate to see what was bad!) we were exhausted tired and cold. The snow and wind were so strong that the windshield wipers would freeze to the car. I would hop out and tap them off every few miles. This devotion created my hair to become wet and curly and my make up to wear off leaving a red chapped face behind.

Michael said " Hey we have some extra cash we received as gifts, let's stop in Perry for the night." We would use the cash for a hotel and we would take a break from this weather. Perry is a small place, not too busy. I was sure the plan would work. I was ready for a long hot shower and a nice warm bed to lay down my head. We arrived at a hotel only to find them full. The front desk person then gave me directions to the National Guard Amory and said, you can stay there! "Oh, no! I said, we will be staying at the hotel down the street!" So we went there...they said the same thing. I was crushed. All I wanted was a bed, a hot shower and to sleep. But, we had no choice. The hotel warned us to road north of there was closed and we would more than likely be turned back to the armory if we continued south as they were preparing to close the road. So we headed to the state armory in Perry.

Behind this door...awaits....such....luxory....and...the...best...honeymoon...ever!

This is the set up we first entered. Travelers headed north taking refuge. They fed us soup for dinner and breakfast the next morning.

These were these were the sleeping quarters...

notice the Doritos bag and the Bible on the pillow. The two most important things (not in that order). Thankfully we had some quilts in the car and were able to for-go the army's wool blanket and small pillows. We picked a quiet, semi-secluded spot off the main room, hoping to make light of what seemed to be a desperate situation. Not how this 20 year old newly wed had envisioned her honeymoon! I made some quick friends with a Nebraska college rowing team as I stood in line waiting to call my parents who were probably worried sick. The rowing team learned of our fate...stuck in the armory on the honeymoon and made some funny jokes about sleeping under the stage. I guess word travels fast, because after about an hour of trying to sleep, we were awaken by the News 9 crew who wanted an interview. REALLY? You have got to be joking? It is after midnight, I have been asleep, I look like some kind of I don't even know what...and you want to put me on TV?

Did I mention...I also slept alongside my mother-in-law and father-in-law. Who found themselves in the same desperate situation trying to return home after another wedding? Or that the next morning, I was recognized by the Wal-Mart check out clerk for my TV interview. But, after all, it wouldn't be too hard, I was in the same clothes!

So as we celebrate 10 years of marriage, I would say that I can mostly chuckle at the events that surrounded that day. It seems like yesterday but so long ago. We are different people, living a different life, but loving each other more!

Happy Anniversary, My Love! You are my one and only!

Rick said it would be 80, what happened?

I emerged from my bed happy to find that the world I live in was still intact and no storms had knocked out our power. The weatherman said that it would be 80 degrees and we would experience one glimpse of spring before another dash of winter weather. You know...it couldn't be spring yet because Punxsutawney Phil said there was 6 weeks left...and we have a week left.

I was excited for the Spring (almost Summer) like weather...80 degrees before spring break!?! I donned my jeans, a cute turquoise shirt, and my new Vera Bradley flip flops. But...spring never showed up, it was cold all day. So...what's up with Rick? He said it would be warm. While he was wrong, I wasn't too upset as I was having my own personal summer due to the hot flash side effects of Clomid.

I did not, however, go to the gym....which makes 5 days in a row...but maybe tomorrow or Thursday.

The sky is falling, oh no...

My hair is falling out. I am not sure why. I have never really had this problem. You see, my hair rarely fell out prior to the last few months. I would visit my sisters and find their hair would fall out in the shower...I was always blessed not to have to clear the drain upon exiting the shower. And I still don't...not yet, anyway. You know there are many reasons for hair to fall out. Stress. Poor Diet. Medications. Getting Older. In reality, I am experiencing all of the above reasons.

Is it stress? Definitely possible. With all the stuff going on at school with student plans and moving students, it is definitely possible that it is related to stress. And the work stress combined with all the "hats I wear" has caused some overwhelmed feelings lately. Although, I would have assumed when life was MUCH more stressful in 2007-2008, I would have experienced it then as well, but I didn't.

Is it poor diet? Possibly. I have been trying to eat the veggies and cut back on the Cokes. But...with the stress quotient high it makes me crave refined high carb, sugary foods and caffeine in the form of a good ol' Coke.

Is it medication? Let's see...maybe the medicine cabinet that looks like the pharmacy counter can answer that. Truthfully, none of the pamphlets mentioned " you may loose your hair" but combined with 6 other pills... it might be possible.

Is it getting older? well I did just turn 30!

So in reality... the hair loss is probably a normal part of life. Truthfully, it has probably always happened, but before my hair was short enough not to notice it sticking to my hands. But, it is one more thing that makes me want to call it a day...and head back to bed. And it is only 6:45 AM...guess I should rethink?

The Big 3-0!

In this age, turning 30 isn't exactly easy Call it an end to my 20s meltdown. The past few years ushered in an unexpected personal wave of panic, doubt and a woe-is-me attitude. Despite all the goals I had accomplished, or thought I was supposed to accomplish, I suddenly began to question prior decisions and worry about those I had yet to make.

With 30 staring me down, what road would I take next? At this milestone, was I truly where I wanted to be and doing what I wanted to do? Where was the "30s for Dummies" book when I needed it?

So...now I sit the morning after the Big 3-0, not feeling incredible different to now be in the 30's side but wondering what the next path will be? I really have it going on! kind of. Unlike some who face this same fate, I have a husband, one child, and a career that in this time of economic downfall is pretty stable. My husband's business seems to be stable and growing (?) and we are blessed by the Lord and not feeling any of the pressure in my pocketbook. My husband may be feeling it, but I like to live in the ignorant bliss of not watching the news.

One reason for my meltdown moments are the fact I am ticking closer to the stoke of midnight on the biological clock. My family feels a little incomplete, I had pictured it all different...one girl and one boy...maybe twins by the age of 30, which is certainly out of the question. Now I wrestle with those issues quietly and with a specialist.

For me birthdays are more like the New Year's Day...this is the time that I like to think about things to accomplish by the next extinguishing of the candles. So I will spend some time evaluating the where I hoped to be with the where I want to be. Once I get is all figured out I will share, but don't hold your breath cause I don't know many who have it all figured out.

Now that I've turned 30, I'm no longer afraid of what's in store. Unlike a birthday present, life is not always neatly packaged and tied with a bow.

The Red Carpet

With the recent Oscars (or...if not some fancy Hollywood awards that I didn't watch) I was excited to be nominated for my first ever blogger award by Finding Motherhood. Thanks!!!! Her blog is a real account of the hardships of living and ttc with PCOS and some other stuff. She is finally pregnant and enjoying the experience. Michael and I understand far to well the emotional journey she faces. I did it once and am doing it again.

So here are the rules: Put the logo on your blog or post. Nominate at up to 10 blogs with show great attitude and/or gratitude. Be sure to link to your nominees in your post. Let your nominees know they have received the award by leaving them a comment on their blog. Be sure to link this post to the person who nominated you for the award.

1. Chrissy @ Climbing the Next Mountain. An amazing women who does the unthinkable. She is an inspiration to me and many with her running, her volunteering and her walk with God. She struggles....she's honest, but in the end...she falls to her knees.

2. Hesterwoman @ She Likes to Hear Herself Write. She simply shares her life's details...wife, mother, Child of God. I was so excited when I found her blog becuase we got to share life together many years ago, when her now teenager daughters where toddlers. She was definately a spiritual encouragement to me.

3. Jessica @ Jessica Losing It. What started out as a quest to change the structure of her body has turned into a quest of changing the structure of her heart. She is my little sister, an amazing mom, a supportive wife and a great friend (to my other sister) just kidding- had to throw in a little humor...this post is pretty serious.

In all seriousness, I read blogs to encourage me and many others like

  • Bring the Rain
  • Kelly's Korner
  • My Charming Kids
  • Baby Bangs
  • LPM

(I'll add links later...running late again)

22 weeks

There are 22 weeks left until the Willow Lake Triathlon- August 1. I am planning (training/hoping) to compete. I started yesterday with a swimming workout- 230 meters in less than 20 minutes. I could have done more but, Michael was watching Evy in the other pool, aqua aerobics was about to start and my family was HUNGRY... so I decided that was good for the first workout. 10 of 33 laps is not bad for the first workout. I really wanted to jump on the bike for a few minutes, but it my *reasons* were more important. I have wanted to do several things for about a year...and now that I am turning 30! on Friday, I am feeling that it is time for me to commit to doing them. The last two years I have put off training because of pregnancy-stopped Oct. 2007--or the prospect of pregnancy--currently waiting. I am waiting for God, not the baby. Which in truth...I am still learning what that truly means. So in the mean time, I am not going to live a paralyzed life, putting off things I want to do in hopes of getting two lines on a test. It isn't the way to live. And it just crushes me every month. So...the next few weeks should be interesting to my readers, me and my family.

i am afraid...

of lots of things. I seem to live in a pretty consist ant state of illogical and irrational fears (and now I know- strongholds of fear).
-the house being on fire when a fire truck whizzes by
-cars crashing into me at red lights and intersections
-some form of cancer or serious illness in my body that is caught too late
-my husband dying and leaving me alone with debt, a business I know little about, and a huge peice of me gone.
-people dying in car wrecks on traveling trips
-never getting pregnant- or getting pregnant and losing the baby again
-my child dying.

I think the last one is the hardest for me. New moms all fear their children's SIDS possibilities. I would check on her when she wasn't making noise to see if she was still breathing. This happened frequently during the first year and was much more pronounced at the early stages. I think that is why I preferred she sleep on me or close to me. After she hit about a year, my fear was less involved. After about 2, it was almost gone. In fact for about a year, I don't remember the constant wondering or checking. At that time, I feared more of her getting hurt and breaking something then dying. After age 3 and the loss of our Autumn, this fear is back worse than ever. I would check on her several times before I went to bed and during naps (especially when no one was around) and it was the FIRST thing I did in the mornings. This is the reason I still want her to fall asleep next to me and then for Michael to move her after I am asleep. It even spilled over into my classroom, while the kids are napping. I have been know to ask if a kid is breathing. Sheer panic starts to rise when a slumbering child doesn't wake up with the first touch of my hand. I am able to control it, but it begins to make my heart race. I know that we don't serve a mean God, so he wouldn't purposefully try to hurt us, but I was hurt-bad-really bad. And now I am scared he will take away another of his blessings.
Last weeks Esther Bible Study lesson was so good. I just sat in worship at the end-- seeking wisdom, pleading with Him first to not take my child and second to take the fear. I am happy to report that this week, I haven't once thought about that possibility. Before recognizing this stronghold of fear, I would imagine the whole thing through...what would I do? what if this? or what if that? how would I live?...because really, I would rather die. But, the Lord bestowed healing. I am giving Him ALL the glory, because I had nothing to do with it. It has been a while since I have felt his presence so strongly. I left feeling scolded and broken, but blessed. I am so thankful for his Holy-ness and what a personal God he is. I am definitely far from dealing with all the issues I was bringing before the thrown Wednesday night, but at least some progress is being made. I love feeling victorious instead of defeated.
